Clay and Sean are two local boys who grew up on the island of Oahu and have loved to fish since small kid time. Through school, college, various jobs, and life's ups and downs, the love of fishing has endured. Clay opened Nervous Water in 1999 when you could count the fly fishers in Hawaii on your fingers. Since then, we've seen the sport grow in popularity and we're thrilled to see more and more new faces every week. Nervous Water is happy to help beginners learn all about fly fishing and provide experienced anglers a local place to get their fly fishing gear. Aloha!

The Nervous Water story

Clay Yee opened Nervous Water in October 1999 as Hawaii's first fly shop. Sean Niesz later joined as a partner. Together they ran the shop for 24 years, until it closed on December 30. During that time the shop taught many new anglers to fly fish, guided visitors on Oahu's flats, took groups to Christmas Island and wrote years of fishing reports on the NWFF blog.

The shop was known for local fly patterns. Clay's Jiggy Bone Bug, Sean's Bonefish Turd and E.T.'s marabou mantis are still worth tying. You can find recipes on the Hawaii Fly Page.
